Bannister Downs Farm
I was first approached by Bannister Downs Farm to create a set of five labels for their range of delicious creamy 150g vintage cheddars. I decided to tell a story with images and asked Sue to take a number of photos of the cows in various locations around the farm. These photos were tinted back to a coffee colour and placed as a full background image.
I created the name and description for each variety, each having a thin coloured line around the edge of the label and colour coded to taste ie. red for "Chilli Burst", blue for Pepper Crème, green for "Chives & Onion", cream for "Classic Cheddar" and orange for "Old Smokey".
Rather than the usual boring black & white stark back label, I felt that a stylish label using similar fonts to those on the front would make these cheeses stand out from the rest to appeal to the yuppie market. I decided to make these just two colours - rich chocolate and cream, so that they would look consistent across the range and be only slightly more expensive than the usual one colour label. These colours then became the basis of BDF's printed materials.
The range was then expanded to include 400g of each of the range, plus a gourmet pack which contained 4 quarters of different cheese varieties, as well each wedge being able to be sold separately. The wedges needed fold over flaps that included the barcode, ingredients and other general information, plus an overall circular back that contained all the ingredients for the gourmet pack.
